In this blog entry I show a photo of the Berlin TV Tower, one of the most famous sights in the German capital. This photo, which shows the tower in all its splendour, is not only interesting for photographers, but also for anyone interested in Berlin’s historical and cultural treasures.

A monument to modernism: the Berlin television tower

The beginnings in the GDR

The Berlin television tower, built between 1965 and 1969, is not only a technical masterpiece, but also a symbol of German history. Designed in the days of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), it originally served not only as a television tower, but also as a symbol of the GDR’s strength and progress. At a height of 368 meters, it is still the tallest building in Germany today and a fascinating example of 1960s architecture.

Change and significance after reunification

After the reunification of Germany in 1990, the Berlin TV Tower took on a new symbolic meaning. It now stands for the overcoming of the division of Berlin and Germany and is a popular meeting place for locals and visitors from all over the world. Today, the tower serves as a viewing platform and restaurant, from where you can enjoy a magnificent view over the entire city.

The television tower today: a hotspot for visitors

Today, the Berlin TV Tower attracts millions of visitors every year. Its unique construction and the history it represents make it a must-see for every visitor to Berlin. For photographers, the tower offers an excellent opportunity to capture the dynamism and beauty of Berlin from a bird’s eye view.

Tips and perspectives for photography

As a photographer, it is advisable to photograph the Berlin TV Tower at different times of day and from different angles. The morning hours often offer a soft light that brings out the silhouette of the tower particularly impressively. At night, on the other hand, the tower is transformed into a glowing landmark of the city, which is particularly spectacular with long exposures. The photo was taken in the evening from the vantage point of the ParkInn Hotel opposite at Alexanderplatz. Just before sunset, this position offers great light!

More than just a tower

The Berlin TV Tower is more than just a TV tower – it is a living monument to German history and an indispensable photo motif for anyone who wants to capture the diversity and beauty of Berlin. Whether you are a history buff or a photographer, a visit to this striking landmark is always a rewarding experience.
